Digital Cameras:

When choosing a camera, please try to find at least a 3 megapixel or higher.  If you need to be able to shoot onsite or in the
school, photograph items and people for ads and candid shots and get professional-looking results, make sure you get the best
camera. Below are the minimum requirements for a digital camera we recommend. 3 megapixel is great, but 4 is better, 5 is
super, etc...

Resolution:   5 megapixels or greater (only if you have dominant photos on layout as large as 8x10)
Price:  $150 to $850
Lens type:   Zoom (range encompassing at least 36mm to 130mm, 35mm equivalent). Look for higher optical zoom over
         digital zoom.

have a reader plugged into your computer and your computer can handle the load!

Film Speed:

When choosing film, remember:
    100 ISO:
  • Best Color, but must have LIGHT! Not for action…
  • Best Used Outdoors, or in Bright Light
  • Probably Least Expensive
    200 ISO:
  • General Purpose Film, Good Light Recommended
  • Best Used in Overcast Weather, or Indoors with Average to Bright Light
  • Best for Flash Use, OK for action if light available
  • Mid-Range Price
    400 ISO:
  • Best for Action & Low Light
  • Best Used at Night with a Flash, or Catch Fast Action…good for indoor shots, but try with flash
  • Slightly More Expensive

* Keep all film in a refrigerator - slows the decay, lasts longer.
* Use a flash indoors where fluorescent light is the main source
* Look for C-41 Process Color Film label on color film purchased
* Buy 36 exposure rolls - more economical
* Use “next-day/2-day” processing, not “1 hour”- cheaper!
* Be aware of print size: (3½”x5”) or (4”x6”)...extra fees?
* Take advantage of offers: free 2nd sets (to sell?), free  rolls… Sell any left over pictures (25¢ - 50¢ each) at the end of
year.
* Send out a photographer with an empty camera: gets the trigger- finger relaxed, & people think they will be in the
Yearbook.
* Label all cameras clearly on the front “YEARBOOK” - as their picture is taken,  everybody knows it’s for the Yearbook
* Have a yearbook CAMERA DAY & have all students/teachers bring cameras to shoot a fun day during special week.  Have
all agree to give the staff a 2nd set of prints.  Reinstitute the “Historian Officer” in all clubs and have them shoot pics
for you!

School Pictures & the Yearbook: Leave the work to us

Submit the PSPA Formatted Portrait CD, select the layout-we'll do the rest! Creating a portrait section in your yearbook used
to be a time-consuming task with hundreds of photos to label and organize. Not any more!

With the Panel Flow program, Jostens accepts your digital images on a properly formatted portrait CD using PSPA guidelines
from any reputable photographer and then "flows" those images and names into your yearbook pages.

Here is how the process works:

*  Step 1:  Make arrangements for your school’s photo and retake days, and work with your photographer to determine how
you will provide the student data file. This must be done before portraits are taken at the beginning of the year.
*  Step 2:  Mail the CD to the plant as soon as you get the cd from the photographer that includes both the regular photo day
shoot and the retake photo shoot.
*  Step 3:  Receive and correct photo proofs. Photo Proofs are sorted according to your school's needs. Generally, Photo
Proofs are sorted by Grade or by Teacher. Jostens can only sort Photo Proofs according to the information provided in
the text file, so it is important to coordinate this information ahead of time with your photographer. Corrections which
are to be made on the Photo Proofs are FREE and include:
         1. Removing Duplicate Photos
         2. Correcting Misspelled Names
         3. Correcting Incorrect Grade Affiliation.
   *  Step 4:  Select and submit yearbook page layouts from the pre-designed series or create custom designs using the panel
creator addition (Yeartech).
*  Step 5: Review the final yearbook proof.
